What is the working principle of a visual sensor?
As modern technology continues to advance, visual sensing technology is gradually becoming more stable and mature. So, what exactly is visual sensing technology? Visual sensing technology is one of the seven major categories of sensing technologies. A visual sensor serves as the direct source of information for the entire machine vision system; it typically consists of one or two image sensors and may sometimes be equipped with light projectors and other auxiliary devices. The primary function of a visual sensor is to acquire high-quality raw images that the machine vision system needs to process.
What is the underlying principle of its operation? Visual sensing is an electronic imaging technology applied to production equipment. It uses visual sensors to capture images and then transmits these images to a processing unit. After digital processing, the system analyzes pixel distribution, brightness, color, and other image features to determine dimensions, shapes, and colors. Based on these analysis results, the system can control the operation of production equipment accordingly. The operational process of a visual sensor can be divided into four steps: image acquisition, image analysis, image rendering, and image recognition. Visual sensors have the capability to capture thousands of pixels from a single image. The fundamental principle of image processing is as follows: A camera captures video signals, converts the video information into digital images, and then uses a video processing card and video processing software to perform operations such as grayscale conversion, edge detection, and contour coordinate reconstruction on the digital images. Finally, the system transmits information about the target object’s shape and central position to the higher-level motion control program, which in turn drives the robot to perform operations on the target object.
